Dragon Boat Festival

Chinese Lunar Calendar - 5 May

It is also called the "Poet's Festival".  On that day, people in the olden days would throw rice dumplings, which we eat nowadays on the same day into the river, others would get into dragon boats, beating loudly on drums and have a race.  These actions, as thought, would help scaring away bad spirits that would harm the body of the patriotic poet, who jumped into the Miluo River as he perceived the hopeless future of his country.  He is Ch'u Yun.  Nowadays, people would hang out  herbs in front of their houses, have children wear colorful sachets around their necks, adults drink wine to "beat" away evil souls.
