Lesson 5
Lessons from myths.

Read: Narcissus and Echo

The word 'Narcissism' comes from Narcissus, and it means self admiration.

Think: In what way was Narcissus narcissistic?
Think: How did narcissism kill Narcissus?

The story of how Narcissus died shows us the dangers of being too self absorbed and having too little regard for other people.

Question: Narcissus was handsome, but yet he was an uncaring and inconsiderate person. What does this say?

It is often stated that beauty is only skin deep, and this is an excellent example of it. It also shows how shallow the love of his suitors was, something that we should avoid.

Think: What does the story of Echo's death tell us?

The event that led up to Echo's death was her rebutting of Hera. It shows us the dangers of talking too much at the wrong times.
