Lesson 3
The recurrent themes of myths.

Think: Based on the ideas of how mythology is made by ancient civilisations, identify a few ideas that should be in almost all mythologies around the world.

Mythology was made up from the imagination of ancient man to explain the mysteries of the world. Although various factors may change, the basic ideas remain approximately the same.

We call these common ideas Themes.

Read: The Great Themes.

Interactive: Are the themes you thought up inside this list of themes? You may have identified themes that are not stated. We would like to hear what you think! Post your thoughts in the Discussion Boards.

These themes help us identify the main areas which mythology addressed.

Research: Draw a table and choose a few themes to use as column headings. Now track down the examples of these themes in a few cultures.

End of Lesson 3.
