Lesson 1
An introduction to mythology.

Question: What holds the sky up and prevents it from falling to the earth? Why do the tides rise and fall?

You may have answered these questions based on scientific discoveries made by man in recent centuries. Mythology is the way people answered these questions before the advent of science.

Mythology often involved supernatural beings like Gods to explain the wonders of the world and how the world was created.

Research: What are the major mythologies in the world that survives today?

Most societies today in the world have their own Mythology that they have inherited from their past. Besides just providing answers to the people, Mythology also gave inspiration to the people, and told the people of happenings outside what humans were able to see.

Read: The Norse Pantheon.

Think: Note that the Norsemen included the Vikings who were a race of warriors. How did their mythology explain the world to them, and how did it give them inspiration to fight?
