Colony Hybridisation

After the recombinant bacteria colonies have been identified, they are isolated and allowed to multiply freely in an enclosed environment. The inserted gene will activate and produce useful products such as human growth hormone and insulin.

These can later be extracted from the bacteria by crushing their cells, and filter away the unwanted material. The final product is then used to treat patients.
