WORD ELEMENTS |
| INTRODUCTION |
It is easier to guess the meaning of words by reducing them to their basic components. However, it can sometimes be hard to identify them. A word element-root, prefix, or the like- is called a morpheme or morph which comes from the Greek for form. As some morphs change their form and meaning in particular words, the intricacies of these possible variations has to be learnt in order to sharpen our ability to recognise new words and guess their meanings. |
