Each year many students join CARE.  In order to become a member, students must go through a three hour training session. Trainings can be held at the school or other community meeting places.

During the training, four seniors share their experiences and even give out their phone numbers in case future CARE students ever have a problem. Participants develop communication skills.

The primary goal of training is to learn the role-modeling skills and skits, and the importance of being role model.  The CARE sponsors stress the role model issue as one of their most important responsibilities.  If an elementary student comes comes up to them at a football game, the CARE student can't ignore them. Role-modeling is a very important responsibility since teens will represent the school and influence the choices of younger children. At the end of the training, the students are given a pledge to sign.
