In the 3rd and 5th grade DARE programs, a local police officer comes to the classrooms to teach kids vital lessons about resisting peer pressure, drugs, and violence. Tools the officer uses are CARE students as role models, skits, posters, and other activities. The 3rd grade lessons focus on the 8 Ways to Say No and Personal Safety, while the 5th grade lessons are more intense, dealing with drugs, recognizing effects of peer pressure, refusal skills, self-esteem, assertiveness, and alternatives to drugs, gangs, and violence.
