Paper Types
We recommend using Ilford resin-coated paper when making your prints. With resin-coated paper, you have a choice of pearl/matte or glossy type paper. Resin coated paper is more durable than fiber-based paper in the wash, and does not take as long to process. Fiber-based paper is good to use when you want to tint a variety of different subjects on your print with colored pencils or pastels. In the picture above, the small photo is glossy paper, the photo on the left is pearl/matte paper, and the photo on the right is fiber-based paper.
It is necessary to have a paper cutter in the darkroom to make test strips, 5x7s, and other sizes of prints. Below is a picture of how to cut your paper when making 5x7 prints.
