The Singapore Zoological Garden, otherwise known as the Mandai Zoo for the locals, is voted as one of the loveliest zoo in the world. It is based on an open concept, where certain animals like monkeys and poultry can roam about. Although the wild animals are kept in a man-made environment, their "homes" are mimicked after that on their real home in the wild. No metal bars of enclosures can be seen, only lush greenery. They are kept within psychological restraints, based on understanding the behaviour of each species. For example, we know that monkeys cannot swim, therefore they are separated from the visitors by a moat.

You might be impressed, but we have saved the best for the last. The true highlight of the Singapore Zoological Garden is the Breakfast with Ah Meng.

The Singapore Zoological Garden is the only zoo in the world that has allows interaction with the animals. The "Ah Meng" is the local name for the Orang Utan, a breed of monkeys. You can enjoy breakfast with Ah Meng, as this is part of the orang utan breeding programme. The Zoo has the largest social colony of orang utans which consists of 27 of them. These monkeys are extremely friendly.
