LESSON 8. Dimensioning - Mercury Redstone Booster Units

STEP 1. Draw outline of rocket and reference lines.

Set up the drawing with a custom paper size of width 80 and height 95. Set the grid to 0.5.

To accurately size the components, start off by drawing a rectangle that measures 59 X 6 as shown below. You could use the Rectangle command, but this time we used the Line command. Start off in the lower left corner, then when prompted for vertex, type in "6" for Dist and "0" for Ang. Then press Enter. This will create a line segment that is 6 long toward the right. For the next vertex, type in "59" for Dist and "90" for Ang. The next vertex is "6" for Dist and "180" for Ang. The last vertex is "59" for Dist and "270" for Ang. Remember to press Enter after you type in the Dist and Ang for each vertex.

Now copy the bottom horizontal line to reference positions to mark the locations of the various interior details of the rocket as shown below. The distances for each Copy, starting with the first one from the bottom, are:9, 17, 19, 3, 5, 5, 1.
