LESSON 10. Orthographic Projection of Space Shuttle Orbiter

STEP 3. Drawing the wings

In order to draw the wings, you will be changing the line thickness. In order to do this, you click on the down arrow next to the Line Type at the top of the CadStdŽ screen.  Then you can change it to any of the other pre-set line types, or by selecting the bottom line, the one with 2 question marks on either side, you can change the line thickness to whatever you need.

You will start by changing the line thickness to .09.  Then draw a line from the top right corner of the rectangle to X=.5, Y=-2.5.  Now from the end of that line, make another line that is X=0.25, Y=-0.5.  Change the line thickness to 0.095. From the end of the last line, make another one that is X=1.125, Y=-1.50.  Change the line thickness back to 0.09.  Make another line starting from the end of the last one. This one should be X=.25, Y=-0.5.  Now change the line thickness to 1.5.  Finally make a vertical line that starts one grid dot to the left of the end of the last line you made, and goes left until it stops one grid dot before it reaches the fuselage. (This line is the highlighted one below.)  Here is what it should now look like.

Change the thickness to 0.05.  Then starting at D1, make a horizontal line that connects the fuselage and the wing.  It will make a triangle, and should look like this.

CadStdŽ does not have the capability to hatch or color in areas, so we are going to fill in an area by adding thick lines. To fill in the area, first change the line thickness to 0.1, then making  three vertical lines next to each other inside that triangle you just made.  You will probably need to make more then three lines to get it right, but when it's done, it will look like this.

To finish this step, you will need to change the line thickness back to automatic solid line, which is the top line thickness in the Line Type drop down box.  Start a line at the bottom right corner of the wing you made.  Make it X=.125, Y=-0.5.  Then make another line that connects from the end of that line, and is X=-2.125, Y=-0.125.  Finally, change the Snap to Midpoint, then make a vertical line starting from the middle of the line you just created, and going up 0.5625.
