LESSON 10. Orthographic Projection of Space Shuttle Orbiter

STEP 2. Drawing the rockets

Now we will drew the rockets.  Start by using the Arc (Sp, Ep, Mid) command.  Draw a line from the bottom right corner of the rectangle to X=.125, Y=-0.375. The mid point should be  X=0.0, Y=.125.  Then use the Line command to draw a vertical line down that starts at the end point of the last line you drew, and is 1.00 long.  Finish this part by drawing a horizontal line that starts at D1 and is 0.75 long.

Now change the grid to 0.0625 spacing.  Use the Poly Line command to draw the three lines like the highlighted lines below. Use the Arc (Sp, Ep, Mid) to draw X=.0625, Y=-0.25. The mid point is X=0, Y=.125, position it as shown below.

Use the Mirror X command to mirror the arc. When prompted, "Mirror X Point?", click 1 grid space to the left of the arc, click "Yes" when prompted "Copy while mirroring?"  Then connect these two arcs with another Arc (Sp, Ep, Mid), like the one highlighted below.  Repeat the last arc, only make the midpoint below the ends instead of above.

Now use the Line command to draw 2 lines like the ones highlighted below.   The horizontal line is 0.1875 long, and the second line is X=-0.0625 Y=-0.1875.  Then draw an arc that goes from D3 to the end of the line you just drew.  The mid point will be X=0.0 Y=.0625.

Use the Arc command again to draw a horizontal line that goes from the end of the last arc you drew to the left 0.625.  The mid point should be X=.3125, Y=.125.  Now use the Mirror Y command on the arc to mirror it, so that it looks as shown below.

Make an arc like the highlighted one below.   It will be X=.125, Y=-0.375, and its mid point will be X=-0.0625, Y=.25.  Then make another arc, starting from the end of the last one, to X=-0.25 Y=.125.  The midpoint is X=.1875 Y=-0.0625.  Then use Mirror Y to mirror the last arc. The drawing should now look like this:

Make a vertical line going up from D4, 0.375 long.  Then starting at the end of the last line you made, use the arc command to make a line that is X=.125, Y=.5.  The midpoint is X=-0.125, Y=-0.25.  Now we'll make the stabilizing fin.  Use Poly Line to make 2 lines like the highlighted ones below. The first line should be X=.125,  Y=-75. The second line should be X=-0.125, Y=-1.50

The drawing should now look like this.
