LESSON 10. Orthographic Projection of Space Shuttle Orbiter

STEP 1. Drawing the body

Use a Grid spacing of 0.125 and an A-size portrait sheet. The Grid spacing will change a couple of times during the drawing.

First you need to draw the body of the Shuttle. Use the Rectangle command.  Near the center of the paper, type in "1.5" for the X value and "4.625" for the Y value of the Rectangle command.  Next draw a vertical line through the middle of the rectangle.  Draw the line going through the entire paper.  This is your "mirror line". Nothing else will be drawn on the left side of the line until after you mirror the entire drawing.

Now draw the cockpit area. Use the Line command to draw a vertical line from the upper right corner of the rectangle, type in ".5" for Dist and "90" for Ang.  Then use the Arc  (Sp, Ep, Mid) command to draw from the top end of the last line you drew, so X = -0.5 and Y equals 1.5.  The mid point should be at X=.375 and Y=-0.75.  It will now look like this:
