Project Gemini was really nothing more then a stepping stone to putting a man on the moon. Started in 1962, its objectives were to perfect the process of entering the environment  and landing at a pre-selected site, to dock two space vessels together, and to keep man in space for two weeks.  All of this was needed  to know what had to be done to put a man on the moon.  The longest any U.S. astronaut had been in space before Gemini was for less than 2 days!

Some of Gemini's accomplishments include:  the first U.S. space walk, the first docking between two ships in space, a new record in altitude(850 miles), and up to that point, the longest any human had been in space.

The project was a success, not only because its objectives were accomplished, but also because the subsequent Apollo missions put a man on the moon.
