| Before you
draw your design for a spacesuit, make sure you
use the steps outlined in Lesson 7, The Design Process. Your
problem, as engineer, is to design a spacesuit
that will meet these requirements: Protect the
astronaut from heat, cold, zero pressure,
radiation, and meteoroids. You also need to
consider maneuverability, control,
communications, oxygen, carbon dioxide removal,
and electrical power.
Search the NASA
web site for
additional information to help you with your
design. In particular, you will find NASA's
excellent curriculum, Suited for Spacewalking, useful for this project.
Don't be limited by the
actual design of the shuttle EMU. Use your
imagination, but work within the constraints of
the problem. When you have completed your design,
please share it with us. Email
your .cad, .jpg or .gif file to us.
