Name Description
T-1 An internet connection capable of carrying data at 1,544,000 bits/second. A T-1 line could move a megabyte in less than 10 seconds.
T-3 An internet connection capable of carrying data at 44,736,000 bits/s. T-3 connections can be used to supply thousands of people with a 56K connection, or even supply an internet connection for a whole college.
T1 Two pairs of copper wire that carry data at a rate of 1.544 Mbps. They can be used to carry 24 phone lines or an Internet connection capable of 1.544 Mbps data transfer.
T2 This consists of four T1 lines which can carry 96 voice channels or up to 6.312 Mbps worth of data.
T3 28 T1 lines together make up a T3, which can carry 672 separate voice channels or up to 44.736 Mbps data throughput.
T4 Six T3 lines make up a T4, which carries data at 274 Mbps.
T5 This consists of 240 T1 lines which can carry 5760 voice channels or up to 400.352 Mbps worth of data.
Telematics A technology which combines computers and telecommunications to work together.
Telnet An old protocol for remotely logging in to another computer.
Terabyte Unit of measurement for pieces of information : approximately 1 trillion bytes, 1 billion kilobytes, 1 million megabytes or 1000 gigabytes. At present mainly used for exaggerating, as even the largest storage is only measured in a handful of gigabytes.
Terabyte 1000 Gigabytes. Actually it is 1024 Gigabytes if we want to be exact.
Terminal Adaptor A piece of hardware similar to a modem, required to operate an ISDN internet connection.

TFT (Thin Film Transistor) A technology used mainly in laptop screens for giving a sharp and vibrant colour display. Much less bulky than the CRT system used in most desktop monitors, which it is now slowly beginning to replace, but also more expensive.
TFT Technology used in labtop screens that lets them be so sharp.
The New Internet An appliance with a 266MHz processor that lets you connect to the Internet. It has a CD-ROM drive, a 56Kbps modem, a keyboard, mouse, and speakers. It cannot be used for anything other than internet usage.
Touchpad A pressure-sensitive pad which replaces the mouse on most laptop computers.
Touchpad Like a mouse, except you use your finger to move the pointer instead of a mouse. Usually found on laptops.
