Name Description
IBM A computer company that designed and built the first PCs, and still a giant of the industry. Standard PCs are still sometimes referred to as IBM compatible, although IBM does not control the PC standard anymore.
IDE (Intelligent Drive Electronics ) A type of PC hard disk.
IDE Intelligent Drive Electronics is used to connect Hard Drives or CDs to a motherboard.
Inkjet Technology for printers that works by squirting tiny jets of ink onto paper with very very high percision.
Intranet A private network inside a company that uses the same kinds of software as public Internet, but that is only for inside use.
IP Number Sort of like an address for a computer. It is used so that servers on the internet know where to sent the data that is being requested by the computer.
iRobot-LE A home-monitoring, communication robot developed by iRobot. You can control the iRobot unit using a PC running Windows 95/98 or Windows NT, with a broadband Internet connection. It communicates directly with the Internet using a personal Web server and an IP (Internet Protocol) address. The iRobot is equipped with a Pentium processor and the Linux operating system, although you don’t need Linux on your home PC to run the robot.
ISA (Industry Standard Architecture; pr."icer") Usually used to describe the format of a once-common type of expansion card, now almost obsolete but there are still some cards in this format around.
ISA The format of a type of expansion card that used to be common. PCI has replaced ISA over the last few years.
ISDN Basically a way to move more data over existing regular phone lines. It is more expensive than normal phone internet though...
