The
system of disposing of household trash in Compact City would be easier than
current practice. Trash would never need to accumulate about the house or yard
or be deposited in the street for collection on a designated trash-collection
day. Instead, at any time, trash could be disposed of by placing it in a special
container and dispatching it immediately by way of the automatic delivery system
for recycling. The automatic delivery system could supply any number of containers
so that one would never need to mix the different types of trash but could keep
them separate from each other at all times, which is a step considered essential
in making recycling economically feasible. For example, it would be an easy
matter to process soiled paper, clean newsprint, journals printed on glossy
paper, plastics, metal alloys, aluminum, reusable bottles, broken bottles, and
glass, and other materials at recycling factories if these are not mixed together
in the first place.This automatic delivery system could function like and important "artery" that bring items to the consumers. It can also function like a "vein" through which waste would be removed to other "organs" of the city body for reprocessing.
