prevention >>> campaigns >>> educational methods for prevention >>>EDUCATIONAL METHODS FOR PREVENTIONThese are the most used methods of prevention in many countries. They usually consist of educational programs for students and campaigns for informing the people using media. The goal is to decrease the use of drugs and the other problems it leads to. The evaluation of the short-term effectiveness of these methods shows that knowledge about problems, because of use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs, is getting bigger, but this doesn't automatically lead to changes in people's attitude and behavior. The effects over behavior come only when these programs and campaigns are supported with other activities and factors. The educational methods require clear and not ambitious messages and concrete, but not general advice. Information must be new and interesting to the audience and to be able to provoke discussions and/or action. With this method it is yet important to be combined with other types of prevention. |
