prevention >>> commune >>>The Bulgarian CommuneSuccessful treatmentIn the commune, the ex-drug-addicts start their life all over again, forgetting everything that was before. It's the small things that matter to them the most - the installed electricity, the water-heater, etc. The most important is that they feel satisfied with the conditions, which is proved by the letters they sent to their relatives. The commune attendants state that isolation and hard labor are the only way of prevention from drugs. The medicinal treatment is not enough. Boian, one of the commune attendants, says: "I have tried 20 different treatments, all of them very expensive, in different therapeutic facilities, but I couldn't give up drugs. By the way, all of my acquaintances, who have succeeded in giving up drugs, including girls, did not do it with the help of medicines. It was total isolation that mattered the most". It has been proved that the chance of overcoming of the addiction, while living in the commune, is much higher than the one when the person stays for example in a clinic or a hospital. Over 90% of those, who have been commune attendants, have given up heroin forever. There is only one commune in Bulgaria. And as the tradition goes, money is the biggest problem. There is a lack of funds for the establishment of better conditions for the already existing commune, as well as for others to be built up. Think of those, who want to cure themselves from this "disease", for which the society itself is mainly the one to blame. Let's help them, otherwise the only thing that the future holds for them is inevitable death. Let's help them, because the same may happen to our children or friends! This is a letter by a communard addressed to his parents.
