The Bulgarian Commune
WHO CAN BECOME A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNE
For getting into the commune can apply drug-addicts,who
have passed the abstinention(the physical dependence).They should not
have taken drugs for months and even longer. Two are the clauses,which
are required in order to be admitted: first to have desired this treatment
for yourself and not because someone else wants this(for example parents)
and second- to give your acknowledgement that you are not able to get
over the problem alone.After the candidate passes a special test,a therapeutic
contract with the rights and obligations is signed. Before the entry in
the commune, an obligatory dental examination should be passed. At the
beginning 6 boys were living in the commune and at the moment they are
16 of age between 15 and 26. The number of all,who want to become members
of the commune is over 700.

Therapeutic Contract
Today,………(dd:mm:year), this contract has
been concluded between the team, working in the “Alternatives” program,
part of the “Free choice foundation”, which is represented by its
chairman – Vladimir Tomov Kachakliev, and the volunteer commune
attendant - …………………………(full name), personal ID number: …………………,
address:…………………, phone number……………………, acting as the second side
in this contract, concerning isolation and volunteer labor without
getting paid, in a therapeutic commune in Belmeken (Bulgaria). The
commune is found in residence in the village of Pashovi, Velingrad,
Bulgaria.
Team obligations include:
- The supplement of a habitable space and
labor for free
- The team will keep in secret the identity
of the commune attendant and his/her family
- The team will point out for the commune
attendant also another forms of therapy, used in attempt to control
the state of dependence of psychoactive substances.
The commune attendant is obligated:
- not to use and not to import, during his/her
stay in the commune:
- psychoactive substances and their derivatives
- coffee, Coca-Cola and other fizzy non-alcoholic
beverages
- alcohol
- cigarettes
- money
- not to listen or create his own music
- not to watch TV or listen to the radio
- not to have any sexual relationships with
another commune attendant or another casual persons
- not to read newspapers or magazines
- to obey the inner rules of the commune
- not to contact people, who have nothing
to the with the “Alternatives” program of the “Free Choice Foundation”
- not to move around, in the region of the
commune, all by her/himself
The commune attendant can:
- receive once per month a letter from a
member of his/her family
- send once per month a letter to a member
of his/her family
- be visited by members of his/her family,
if it is approved by the common meeting of the commune. But this
may happen after at least 6 months spent in the commune.
- to read books from the library of the
commune
- leave the commune on his/her behalf (it
is strongly recommended that his/her leave is approved by the
rest of the commune attendants). In that case his/her family should
supply him/her with some money.
- when leaving the commune, take away all
of his personal belongings.
When the commune attendant has quitted the
commune voluntarily, he/she has no right to come back there.
If one or more of the already mentioned
clauses of this contract are not executed correctly, this leads
to the automatic disengagement of this contract and the team working
for the “Free Choice Foundation” is no longer obliged to follow
the causes of this contract.
