prevention >>> commune >>>LIFE IN THE COMMUNEThe narcocommune is situated on 1870m altitude,10km far from the sport base `Drujba` of Belmeken. The natural conditions are wonderful. The leader is Toma Kachakliev(the son of the founder Mr Vladimir Kachaklie) - a former drug-addict. This is the significance of the commune-former drug takers, helping all,who want to rescue from the dependence on drugs. That is why exactly from this commune will come out the persons, who will lead other,future narcocommunes in Bulgaria. The treatment in the commune is connecet with ceaseless labour and isolation. In order to be successful the sojourn should not be shorter than a year and three months, but as a whole it continues three years. There are no doctors and psychologists in the commune- for the drug-addicts they are laymen. Only on Saturdays one doctor comes to the commune to check the health condition of the boys. At the beginning the conditions in the commune are severe: "The first four-five days were hellishly difficult. We did not have electricity, the water freezed and we had to wait for it to melt in order to wash." The boys were settled in two rooms and they began the construction of new rooms for the future members of the commune. The day passes in the following way: they get up at 6,45am and make their beds;then they do some physical exercises;the breakfast is at 7,30am(they prepare it and do all the cooking);at 8,00am they begin working; at 11,00am they have a 7-minute rest and after that is the lunch-at 12,30pm; at 17,00pm they take a break for another 7 minutes; the evening is the time for conversations and sharing, each evening they have a certain topic for reflection; from 22,00 to 23,00pm they are allowed to read or to write letters. The Sunday afternoons are the only rest, when they usually make excursions. "It is not so frightful as it seems. Only the first two weeks.
