Sugar Sugar- Food? Sweeters Salty, Bitterr, Pungent

Something interesting

Many of us think of sugar as food, but this property of its is as doubtful as the nourishing ability of alcohol. Sugar may really serve as a replacement of food after hard physical labor, because it can supply energy faster than any other substance. It is absorbed fully by the organism of a child, playing outside, and by the one of a sportsman. But when we talk someone, who is sitting in front of the TV, about ¾ of this energy is turned in reserve fat, which of course has its own consequences. The human organism needs about 500 g carbohydrates daily, but our normal food contain this amount in the form of starch and other polysaccharides, which disintegrate slower in the organism and this way they are absorbed with their full value. The usage of sugar, without any particular reason for it, results in growing fat; worst case scenario is that those who suffer from it take pills to get thin, which make them nervous, therefore they take tranquilizers to relieve their anxiety. Different researches show that there is a connection between consummation of sugar and the probability to develop diabetes, and that the excessive usage of sugar is also connected with the inclination towards alcoholism. Many think that after alcohol and tobacco, sugar is the third most dangerous substance, from which a person can develop dependency.

This conclusion may seem rather drastic, but sugar is much more than a simple gustatory stimulant. The pleasant sensation of sweetness is connected with the secretion of endogenic opiates in the brain; it is a very short one and it is absolutely harmless, but it is enough to form psychic dependency. The influence, which sugar has over the synthesis of serotonine, is more serious. Researches show that after you eat something sweet the concentration of serotonine in the brain increases which also lifts up your spirits. A considerable percentage of people, who because of their biochemical peculiarities, in the autumn-winter period of the year, feel very depressed. The reason for this is that the level of serotonine in their brains falls down, but eating food rich in carbohydrates can relieve the symptoms. The constant consummation of sweet food of these people is their way of fighting back depression – inevitably they grow fat. Scientists, who have studied this problem, are sure that the reason for this depression is connected with the short duration of the day in winter and recommend that people, who get in such a state, eat sweet things and spend at least 2 hours on sunlight.
