Sedative drugs

Barbiturates, benzodiazepines, metaqualon and many other synthetic substances are used much in medicine as sedative and soporific drugs and for the treatment of epilepsy. Some of them are used to provoke a state, close to intoxication (like opiates). They can be very beneficial, but the cases they are really needed are not that many. Many doctors yet prescribe such drugs for even the slightest pain, just like opium was prescribed a hundred years ago. This fact makes some people think these remedies are relatively harmless and they begin buying them without a real reason.
