Ecstasy – MDA, MDMA and MDEAToxicity and chronic effects
Most typical side effects of Ecstasy are marasmus of the mouth, which results in bad breath and loss of appetite. The last one is also the main reason why it is so popular among young girls, who what to get thinner. Some people have a headache after they have taken Ecstasy; there are several cases of jaundice and kidney damages, but this is most probable only when there are other problems with the liver or the kidneys. It is a fact that thousands have died under the influence of Ecstasy. In about 99% of the victims the cause of death was a heatstroke. The usage of Ecstasy leads to a very decreased secretion of water in the organism. Therefore, after hours of dancing, the body temperature raises considerably. In this state a great thirst appears, but Ecstasy suppresses this unpleasant feeling and the user, if he consciously doesn’t take any measures, may die. Almost all of the death cases took part in large overcrowded nightclubs with bad air-conditioning and where water is not very easy to find. The tests on lab mice showed that when the cells of animals are full Ecstasy is almost 5 times toxic than usual. Until now studies have shown that the death probability, after usage of Ecstasy, is just several times higher than when travelling with a car or skiing in Switzerland. This risk looks inconsiderably small in comparison to the dangers that accompany some other commonly accepted amusements. But the thing that bothers the most is the probability that Ecstasy may result in long-term pathological damages of the brain. People can develop tolerance towards the effect of Ecstasy the same way they develop it towards the one of LSD. This is also the reason why it is taken in with an interval of several days. There can be no physical dependency towards this effect and its psychological one depends very much on the concrete personality. A lot of people think of Ecstasy as a key to the unknown parts of the soul; they think that the experiences they had under its influence have made look in a totally new, different way everything that surrounds them. Others say that the only bright moments are the ones they have spent in the Saturday disco; for them everything else looks even more boring and plain. It look like the reason for the different effect of Ecstasy is within the users themselves; it stimulates the artistic minds, but it can make the depression of those, who have personal problems, even more deeper. There is also one more thing that Ecstasy is blamed of. Many of the other light drugs are also accused in the same. Some say they are not so dangerous themselves but they can be dangerous as a way to adapt to “harder” drugs. As far as the statistics are concerned the users of heroin feel disgust from the effects of Ecstasy; the same attitude have the users of Ecstasy towards those, who use opiates. If Ecstasy is a portal to other drugs, this is true only for the hallucinogens, mostly LSD. By the way it looks like LSD, in the doses that it is used today, is not more dangerous than Ecstasy.
