classification of drugs >>> deliriants >>>DeliriantsSynthetic HolinoliticsIt was stated not long ago that some substances, with very strong hallucinogenic effect, which caused happy anxiety, were found in the military forces. The idea of such type of a weapon is not a new one. According to the records, in the Middle Ages, the Scottish coped with the incoming Danes very successfully using the belladonna. They put it in barrels full of beer, which they left behind in the middle of the battlefield. After drinking the beer the Danes lost consciousness and the Scottish killed them very easily. The serious interest towards the substances, which totally imitate the psychosis of schizophrenia, as a potential chemical weapon appeared right after the discovery of LSD. But LSD has some considerable disadvantages because as a half-synthetic compound, made from one natural “product” – the ergot, its production in large amounts is practically impossible. Those, who have a sense of humor, could see another moral reason – the effect of LSD is more or less a pleasant one and this can hardly be connected with the idea of guns and rifles. Therefore the benzylants with their, horrible for the audience, side effect are just perfect. There is one compound among them, which was thought to be just good enough for the job. In 1963 this substance was approved as a weapon in the US army, under the code name “BZ”. Undoubtedly, the military departments of the other countries have also equipped themselves with such an exotic tool of war. People shouldn’t think that the synthetic holinolitics are only toys of some crazy generals. Many of them are used in modern medicine. The benaktizine in doses, smaller than those, which cause psychosis, is used as a tranquilizer. Another important application of the main holinolitics is their part in the treatment of the Parkinson disease. The usage of plants, containing atropine, for treatment of this disease was introduced in the beginning of this century by the Bulgarian natural healer Ivan Raev. This method was later called “cura bulgara”. In order to aid its anti-Parkinson effect a lot of other synthetic products were later very carefully studied. Some of them are very popular nowadays such as “parkizan”; another products from this group are biperiden (akineton) and triperiden (norakin). |
