Cocaine

Effects

Cocaine has two basic effects, between which there is no connection – cocaine is at the same time local anaesthetic and stimulant.

The smoking of “crack” or the venous injection cause sharp and strong euphoria, comparable, to a certain extent, to the one of the opiates. The complete sensation of cocaine can be experienced only when it is absorbed venously. If it is injected subcutaneously, its rapid elimination diminishes the effect. This is twice as true for the sniffing. When cocaine is injected together with heroine (also known as speedball), the cocaine excitement is compensated with the laxity, caused by heroine. It’s curious that this mixture is a “fruit” of physicians’ efforts from the end of 19th century to cure the morphine takers by gradual substitution of  morphine with cocaine, but still at this time became clear that the consequences of the absorption of this combination were destructive.

Cocaine has the reputation of a strong aphrodisiac. It is obvious that its characteristics of a stimulant manifest in activities such as sex, but the results are sometimes opposite of the expected ones. On some people it works quite differently, for example the effect with men is more often related with desires. As for women are concerned, the effect on them is negative. “I became so mad that I cannot appraise the act of sex.” – said one.
