KetamineThe ketamine has many of the features of the PSP and almost every time a patient wakes up after its anesthetic effect has worn off, he or she talks about strange experiences. Here are some typical answers to the question “ What did you feel after the operation? ”:
Sometimes patients feel horror and confusion from the extraordinary experiences. There are two possible ways to solve this problem. The first one is the easier: the ketamine must be combined with diazepam, but this will deprive people of the only interesting experience, that this unpleasant event is connected to, namely the operation. The other method is based on the concept that patients, who know what they will be going through, panic far less than the others who are not informed. All the parameters show that the ketamine is less dangerous than the PSP and when people use it they talk about a “bad trip” very rarely. The ketamine was used for psychotherapeutic purposes. One of the psychiatrists, who used it on his patients, said that most of them have experienced in one way or another detachment of the soul from the body, which helped them overcome the fear, they had for death. This psychiatrist thinks that the ketamine is relatively safe and has no serious effects, if people don’t misuse it. Some of his patients have experienced the so-called “dissociative reverse flashes”; this phenomenon is typical for most of the hallucinogens, but it resembles no threat to people, if they are aware of it. The ketamine (although rarer than the PSP) may also be misused, but this is very risky. It is relatively weak, when talking about its toxic effect, but in some cases, when it is injected intravenally, the person may stop breathing. It raises the blood pressure and it is dangerous for people who suffer from heart diseases as well as for people who may develop epilepsy, as it may cause convulsions. It is known that, a certain tolerance may be developed towards the ketamine. A research shows that, in some people, who have taken it systematically purely for pleasure, some long-term psychotic changes may occur; some of them believe they have been communicating with aliens, and two of them have even committed suicide. |
