Alcohol

History Drinks Effects Addiction Sayings

EFFECTS

Maybe everybody has seen himself or somebody else in different stage of elation. It is very well known that alcohol has different effect on different people, but its typical effects can be connected to its concentration in blood. Man feels excited and becomes chatty at a concentration of 0.5 - 1 g/l; at 1 - 1,5 g/l most people become loud-mouthed and uncontrollable, and later - sleepy; a concentration higher than 1.5 g/l leads to nausea and vomiting, and often after that lethargy and stupor come. More than 3 g/l always lead to loss of consciousness, and at 5 g/l, if no measures are undertaken, death comes in 1 - 2 hours. The world record is 15 g/l; doctors made great efforts in order the champion to survive.

Under the influence of alcohol man is more apt to do things he wouldn't do otherwise. That's why it's the best spread drug of truth; or as Bulgarians say "what is in the sober's brain is in the drunk's mouth".

ALCOHOLIC ADDICTION

Practically all the people who drink systematically develop tolerance to alcohol's effects. The long usage of large amounts of alcohol leads to a strong physical addiction, and the psychic addiction is obtained much faster. It is thought that about 10% of drunkards soon feel strong addiction, together with strong abstinent events.

"Some drink of happiness, some of sadness, and some - since the morning" - the Russian people

"What is in the sober's brain is in the drunk's mouth" - the Bulgarian people
"Beer is the proof of God's love to us and that he wants us to be happy" - the President Franklin
