Welcome to the jazz theory page. This page is aimed at giving you a basic understanding of and appreciation for jazz music. While it is specifically geared toward instrumentalists, even non-musicians can find something of value here.

There are two options for usage of this site:

  • Non-catalogued browsing of instructional material. In other words, you don't have to login or follow any sort of lesson plan; just browse the information and have fun. To start, just click on any of the lesson plans to the left.

  • Catalogued learning through the sequential system:. Learn each lesson, then complete the section by taking the test. This method provides for a more in-depth coverage of the material, but is also more time consuming. To begin here, one must start by creating an account.
