Restless legs movement is also known
as Ekbom Syndrome, Wittmaack-Ekbom Syndrome, and Anxieties
Tibialis. It is a sleep disorder and a form of sleep
deprivation. This long-term condition can be due to
a central nervous system disorder or perhaps due to
a malfunction of the peripheral nerves. It can also
be associated with other medical conditions, including
poor blood circulation in the legs, muscle disorders,
kidney diseases, alcoholism, vitamin or mineral deficiencies
or neuropathy. Other factors that result in the syndrome
include medications, caffeine, smoking, excess fatigue
and temperature extremes. It is often found to be
hereditary, and researchers are currently looking
for the gene(s) that may be responsible for this type
of RLS, known as familial RLS. Anemia and low levels
of iron in the blood are symptoms of RLS, as are chromatics
conditions such as peripheral neuropathy, which is
damage to the nerves in the hands and feet, and kidney
failure.
