We spend almost a third of our lives
sleeping-or trying to. And yet, despite the efforts
of many talented researchers, the reason we sleep
is still not quite clearly understood by scientists
who study this phenomenon. Many people are preoccupied
with sleep, or the lack of it, and collectively, they
consume tons of drugs each year in attempt to get
sleep. Advertisements for non-prescription sleep medications
imply that a night without full eight hours of sleep
is a physiological and psychological disaster. Is
this worry justified? Does missing a few hours-or
even a full night-of sleep actually harmful to us?
This site aims to enlighten the layman
on the fundamentals of our most time- consuming activity,
as well as an insight into the workings of the studies
of sleep. Apart from the scientific take on things,
the "Dreams" section will venture into the
folklore all over the world associated with dreaming
and sleep. Enjoy!
