Transient insomnia: This is due to
inability to adapt to situations, like hospitalisation
or air travel to a new time zone.
Short-term insomnia: This is mostly due to stress,
pressure in daily lives or a serious illness. It can
last up to three weeks.
Long-term insomnia: The causes include psychiatric
conditions, sleep apnea (see Sleep
Apnea), restless legs (see
Restless Legs Movement), nocturnal myoclonus or
chronic drug or alcoholic abuse.
