Windows NT

 

Windows NT is an operating system that is geared towards businesses, both large and small. We will be concentrating on the Windows NT Workstation and the Windows NT Server.


Windows NT Workstation:

First, it is important to understand what a workstation is. A workstation is a desktop computer that is designed to carry out specialized tasks, such as software design.

Windows NT Workstation has a graphical user interface, just like Microsoft Windows 95. It makes use of menus, icons, windows, and pointing devices (i.e. mice). It also contains programs that are common to Windows 95, like My Computer, the Recycling Bin, and Windows Explorer. In addition, Windows NT Workstation also contains WordPad and Paint. The former lets you create text documents, while the latter lets you create and modify all sorts of images and graphics!

Windows NT Workstation gives you easy access to the Internet. It contains Internet Explorer, which makes Internet usage extremely easy and simple!


Windows NT Server:

The Windows NT Server is a multipurpose server operating system that works by using GUI. This means that provides many special network services. It can fulfill the requests from clients that are part of the network.

Windows NT Server has many features specifically designed to perform the tasks needed for network services. It has a Network Monitor, which examines traffic to and from the server. It has Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0 built right into it. This lets it act as a very efficient Internet server! IIS lets you build web sites and share them with the whole world via the Internet! IIS contains tons of special features to optimize your Internet-ing experience!
