Make
Your Own Sun Dial
What you
need to make your sun dial:
- Print a
copy of the sun
dial rectangle.
- A piece
of oaktag or thin cardboard
- A piece
of string
- tape,
hole punch
How to
make your sundial:
- Cut out
along the outer edge of the sun dial rectangle.
- Glue
rectangle to oaktag or cardboard.
- Fold
along the center line. Be
sure to have the oaktag bent at a right angle (90
degrees)
- Punch a
hole in the center of each end of the sun dial.
- Thread
the string through the two holes, taping the ends to the back of
the oaktag.
How to use
your sundial:
- Go
outside on a sunny day.
- Hold the
card level and pointed
toward the North.
- You will
see the shadow of the string on one of the hour marks.
- Check
your sundial time with your watch or clock.
