Walt Whitmore Jr is the son of Walt E. Whitmore, who owned the KGFL radio station in Roswell. The elder Whitmore was alleged to be the first journalist to have interviewed Mac Brazel, the rancher who found the alien debris. He hidden Brazel at the Whitmore home to keep the interview secret and the Army was believed to be having fits over the disappearance of Brazel.

Walt Whitmore Jr claimed he saw some of the debris that Brazel had brought back and described it as "extremely tough, metallic, foil-like substance and some small beams that appeared to be either wood or wood-like. Some of the materials had a sort of writing on it which looked like numbers that had been added or multiplied."  Furthermore, he added that he and his father had attempted to drive to the crash site but were turned away by the military who had the whole area sealed off.

Walt Whitmore Jr had been interviewed by several UFO researchers over the years and had changed his story over and over again, adding so much more embellishments that it impossible to separate the facts from fiction. Moreover, he couldn't have the debris as it Brazel would had given them all to Major Jesse Marcel before coming over to the Whitmores.
