There are a lot of different programming languages around the world. The most popular of which (as noted by Planet Source Code.com) is Visual BASIC. Visual BASIC was developed by Microsoft Corp. in the early 1980's. It was originally called BASIC, but the language was too slow for major programs, so Microsoft redesigned it and it is now called Visual BASIC.

Probably the best programming language around is C++. This language can handle the most complex of programs. UNIX and LINUX are both programmed in this language as are many more operating systems. C++ started out as C and was developed by AT&T's Bell Labs in the 1970's.

Perl is also a very popular programming language for the Web. Most CGI programs on the Web today are built on Perl. It is one of the most versatile languages in the World.

A few other programming languages of note are PASCAL, HTML, DHTML, JAVA, JavaScript, JSP, ASP, PHP, and more.
