The Internet was developed in 1969 by the military. The project was called ARPANET or Advanced Research Project Agency Network. It was developed so the US Government could communicate after a nuclear war. By 1982 TCP/IP protocol was developed for the ARPANET. The word Internet was first used. In 1989 ARPANET formally expires.
In 1992, the WWW (World Wide Web) was released; Tim Bernerslee created it. In 1993 Marc Andreesen released the first browser. It was called Mosaic. By the 1990’s the Internet starts to get increasingly popular. Ted Nelson has created HTML or Hypertext Make-up Language. In the 1960’s when ARPANET first started it had 23 nodes. The Internet today has over 1,000,000 nodes. After the first browser was first released, the growth rate of the Internet was 341% and it still grows. The WWW doubles in size approximately every 53 days. When last counted the Internet had over 1 billion web pages. Universities and schools use the Internet for global learning and for communicating with their students. Large corporations like AOL and Microsoft offer Internet connections to consumers and become rich off of it. Many companies have now started up to try to get rich quick off the “. COM.” The Internet grows every day and it grows worldwide.
