Steve Jobs was a college drop out. He started Apple Computers with Steve Wozniak. They started the company as a partnership. Wozniak would design and build the computers and Jobs would sell them. Jobs also had to hire help, find computer parts and other tedious things.
With the creation of the Apple II, Jobs and Apple Computers had huge profits. Even though Apples previous models such as the Apple I, Apple II, and Apple Lisa had decent profits, Jobs was the best known for the creation of the Macintosh. The Macintosh was an instant success because of the graphical interface, but it was inexpensive. Jobs had created a billion dollar company in a very short amount of time. After awhile sales were low for Apple Computers, so Jobs hired a new CEO. His name was John Sculley. Sculley was previously an executive at Pepsi. Sculley helped get Apple out of the sluggish sales. The Macintosh team was driven by Jobs to do seventy-plus hour weeks. This could occur for months and it was normal for this team. The Macintosh team excuse for this was that the Macintosh computer was not only a big step in computers, but it would change the world. After about nine years Macintosh sales start to lower. Jobs and Sculley had a struggle for power. Sculley won in the end. Jobs left the company and started a new company called NeXT. NeXT started out making hardware, but didn’t have much luck. So instead they started to create software. NeXT became popular and started to make good money. In 1996 Apple computers had a slow year. So at the end of the year they bought NeXT for 400 Million dollars. The reason for buying the company was to revamp Apples old operating system and produce a new one. So now Jobs is back working for Apple Computers once again. Jobs is presently leading Apple Computers into the 21st century. |
