Bill Gates is the richest man in the world today, if you didn’t already know. He was born on October 28, 1955. Gates and Paul Allen, who was his partner and friend, started a company called Micro-soft. Gates started the company after recently dropping out of college at the age of 19.

Gates started out by making software for MITS. He wrote programs for MITS’s computers. He wrote a contract stating that MITS could use the software in their computers, but Microsoft could also distribute the software to other companies. Ed Roberts owned MITS, he took them to court so they could make money on the software, but the courts sided on Microsoft’s side. At this point Gates almost lost the company.

Over the course of the Microsoft’s history, Gates has had to fire the president of the company and find new ones. Jon Shirley was the last one Gates had to hire. Shirley was the former Tandy executive at the time. Shirley leads the company to make it a fortune 500.

Gates’ work ethic is not like many people. Many times he would fall asleep at the computer and waking up later to continue were he had left off. Usually most CEO’s have health problems, because of not getting the right sleep. The best reason for Gates not having any problems is because of his youth.

Over the years Gates and Microsoft have created lots of software. It has become the software giant. Some examples of the software are, windows 3.0, 3.11, 95, 98, Millennium, NT, 2000, Office 97 and 2000 and many other software packages. The government has been trying to split the company up, but has had no success so far. In the world today, 90% of the PC’s run on some thing made by Microsoft. Bill Gates has been one of the most successful people in our time.
