Many native tribes inhabit rainforests around the world. It was estimated that more than 1,000 tribes call it home. Before foreign settles came, more than six million native people lived in the Amazon alone. When explorers, conquerors, and settlers came to the Amazon, they killed many of the native people and also devastated their population with disease. Today, only 250,000 natives still live in the Amazon. Some natives are forced to live in a modern lifestyle when their lands are destroyed.
