Verdi began to take an active part in various musical activities of the town. He played piano-duets with Barezzi's daughter, Margherita. Later, the two married. Barezzi became aware of Verdi's musical abilities, and hence he raised the money to send Verdi to Milan in 1832. But he was refused admission there, in the Conservatory, primarily because he was above age.
