Wing Chun Kuen does not traditionally have an official grading system. Modern day Wing Chun Grandmaster Yip Man felt that a person's recognition or rank is expressed through their hands; in In his opinion, there was no need for promotion or ranking systems. Students don't rely on symbols of external validation (i.e. belts, trophies, stars, etc.), but rather learn to rely on their own internalized satisfaction in awareness of their abilities, developed through actual practice.
