The traditional uniform for Tai Chi Chuan is a mandarin suit (jacket and trousers) and special, flat-bottomed slippers. The suit can be any color, and is usually made of a silky or soft fabric. Students typically wear any suitable, loose clothing that allow freedom of movement to practice, while the traditional uniform is used for competitions or public demonstrations. Some students also wear ballet shoes or sneakers instead of the slippers.
