Techniques

The Hapkido fighting system is well-rounded; combining the dynamic kicks of Taekwondo, locks and joint manipulation of Daito-ryu aikijujitsu, throws of Judo, strikes of Karate, and the pressure point attacks of Chinese systems, it has been dubbed a "complete" martial art. Although it may be used in competition, Hapkido was first and foremost created as a system of practical self-defense and contains many techniques that can potentially be lethal. The techniques are non-resistant, executed in a circular motion, and stress controlling the opponent with the least amount of force. Interestingly, students can learn to perform them while lying, sitting, and standing.
