The
uniform for Hapkido is the dobok (also known as dobak), which consists
of three parts: the pants, the jacket, and the girdle. Together, they
symbolize a triple essence and oneness. In addition, they correspond
to the principles of yin and yang; the pants to yin or earth, the jacket
to yang or heaven, and the girdle to a human being.
Dobok
The dobok is white and loose-fitting, reflecting a Korean belief that the universe is white and therefore the origins of all things are also white. It is tied at the waist with a colored belt that indicates rank.
