Stick To It!
Above all, it is imperative that you are committed to practicing martial arts regularly; this is the only way that you will experience the benefits! The following are five essential qualities that students should have in order to train and learn at your fullest potential:

  • Desire: Wanting to learn to be good or improve is essential. You need to decide how high of a level of expertise you aim to achieve.
  • Effort: To progress at any art you need to work hard and discipline yourself. You must train in its various practices and skills, but without becoming obsessive so that you unbalance other aspects of your life.
  • Faith: Faith in yourself to continue to train even after bad days or unproductive sessions. You must also have faith in your instructor without being blind to his or her failings.
  • Humility: Maintain a certain amount of perspective-there's always something left to learn and improved.
  • Patience: Pace yourself in your efforts, allowing adequate time to learn a new discipline or technique. It's okay if you don't grasp a concept immediately; take your time.
