Greetings! As a ThinkQuest veteran coach I have once again enjoyed working and getting to know these three wonderful students during our ThinkQuest journey. I take pleasure working with students and love to help by providing tools and resources for them to succeed. With this ThinkQuest project I was able to advise and challenge our team to help make this website a valuable educational and fun experience. I have coached several winning ThinkQuest teams during the past six years and was honored to receive the ThinkQuest 2000 Coach of the Year Award in Geneva, Switzerland. I thank Advanced Network Services for allowing community members and college students to coach and for assisting students with their college financing. As
a "Karate Mom" to my sons who are both 2nd degree Black Belts
and Assistant Instructors, I have seen how much martial arts has helped
them both mentally and physically. It is impressive to see how this
sport can help people become better learners. KS, Julie and Joris, you all have demonstrated outstanding teamwork and communication and should be congratulated. I hope you enjoyed this ThinkQuest journey; it was a pleasure working with you and hope to meet you all in person some day! Visitors,
enjoy this awesome experience of "M-[art]²-ial". I challenge
you to learn about the martial arts and see how they can benefit you.
Remember martial arts is not a destination but a journey.
Hi! My name is Helen Cheng. I am 19 years old and a student at Stanford University. I have been participating in the ThinkQuest Internet Challenge for three years, and I have found every experience immensely rewarding. My previous sites have included ES2000 - Endangered Species of the Next Millennium (1999), and Forces of Nature (2000). I am very happy to add M-[art]²-ial to that list. The creation of M-[art]²-ial has been an exciting experience for me, especially since I've always been fascinated with martial arts. When I was a little girl, I always watched the "cool kung fu flicks," gazing upon such greats as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, and countless others. This site inspired me to finally take some Wushu lessons, which has been a very interesting experience. :-) As a coach to Julie, KS, and Joris, I am very proud of all their hard work. I have witnessed their constant effort and communication. There are few things that are more rewarding than seeing both a website unfold before your eyes and its creators grow through the experience. These students have worked diligently, digging for information from every possible source, reaching out into the community, interviewing experts, writing deatiled articles to educate users, programming late into the night, and interacting with one another as a true team. Way to go, guys! I also have to thank a lot of people, especially all my teammates - Julie, Mrs. Anderson, KS, Joris, and Hylke - who have all put in so much effort and work. Also thanks to my parents, all the organizations who have been so generous in helping us, to ThinkQuest for providing the opportunity to explore new horizons, and to you, the user, who makes it all worthwhile. Please enjoy the site!
Joris, Julie and Keng Siang you all have done a great job. Through collaboration, new exciting ideas and total effort, the website you three created is much more than I expected it to be before we started with this project. You all did a great job on making this website. Besides the great website you three created, this has been a new sort of thinkquest year for me. After participating three times as a participant, in which I reached the finals last year (Voyage of Exploration - Platinum Award), this is the first year for me as a coach. It was quite nice to me, working with all different people from all over the world working on one target, one goal, one website. Through all the commitment we formed a great team, if we don't forget the fact that one participant is from Singapore, one from the Netherlands and one from the USA and that you haven't seen each other before! Besides thinkquest, some facts about me: I'm 18 years old and living the southest city - Maastricht - of the Netherlands. Besides sitting next to the computer I give sailing instruction and I like field hockey. |
