What
is Meteorology?
It is
the scientific study of all changes in the atmosphere. This is very
useful for weather forecasting.

What
is Weather ?
The four
main ingredients which cause weather are the Sun, the atmosphere,
water vapour and the wind. These all work together, spreading the
Sun's heat around the world and making clouds, rain and snow. Weather
is an endless cycle of events. The changes over a longer period
of time, then it is called climate.

Did
You know?
Without the weather to spread the Sun's heat around the world the
Tropics would get hotter and hotter and the Poles colder and colder.
Nothing would be able to live on the earth.

Where
does it happen?
The
atmosphere is like a giant blanket of air around the Earth. It is
divided into layers. Weather happens in the troposphere, the layer
directly above the ground. Above the Equator the troposphere is
about 16 km (10 miles) deep. Mount Everest, the highest point on
the Earth, reaches about half way up the troposphere.
